When your car needs petrol do you
replace the engine or just refuel?
So, when you need to replace toner.
Do you replace the print engine or just the toner?
Which Makes More Sense?
It is easy to understand that if you replace fewer
parts it will cost you less. Filling up with a tank of
unleaded is cheaper than replacing your car's engine.
These are actual photos of a Kyocera toner cassette (we don't say "cartridge" - this is the word used to describe a consumable unit that contains both a toner and drum) and an HP toner cartridge. Some manufacturers (e.g. Brother and Oki) separate the drum from the toner. However, because the drum still isn't a long-life part they don't save their users much money. The Benefit to you is it makes recycling easier and dramatically reduces the environmental expense.
